Why do Greek teachers and well, Greeks in general, not show there palm to you when they hold up 5 fingers so say, hey I want to buy 5 things or something like that?

BEcause, they think it's like sending you to the five worst places in the universe. And we were HANDED just the other day coming out of the Athens airport at the second pay station. I was so excited I waved and smiled at the guy. Apparently he didn't like the way we swerved to get into a shorter lane, but wow, we were handed and I was grateful!

Are we celebrating Thanksgiving in Greece?

I'll go ahead and wait for you to think about this one...yep, it is an american holiday. They do have a thanksgiving in Japan and Canada, too, but not exactly for the same reasons...obviously. So are we going to celebrate here? Sure! Why not? I'll post pictures our little celebration. Of course we'll be having it a day later, to compensate for school and work, but the meaning will be the same. Hooray!

Answer to last week's question:

It's against the Greek Orthodox Religion to neuter pets. That's what I 've been told, and from what I see, there are MANY religious people around here. What doesn't seem to be against their religion is poisoning and drowning the strays. I've heard horror stories about that and credible sources said they've seen it with their own eyes. Ironically, it happens mostly around the church.

This week's question: If you could change anything about your body, what would you change.

I would love to have a working eyeball at the end of my pinky finger, complete with an eyelid. How cool would it be to

Answer to last week's question....

it's small and green then black and it falls...yes, olive season. they actually believe in 5 seasons here. They have winter, spring summer and fall and olive season! Now it's olive season! Note the olive tree that was just cut in the picture below, it's on the side our house here in Tapia.

Why are there so many stray animals around here? If you walk into a tourist shop, you are bound to find at least one calendar of Greek Cats and one deck of playing cards starring Greek Cats. However cute it is to us foreigners, the Greeks themselves don't seem to care for them. Well, the majority that is. Our local Dentist has given me the skinny on the issue. So my question to you is WHY? Why is there such a problem with the stray animals, problem being that there are so many of them...can you guess why?

1st of all, to answer the last question: Ohi Day was when the Greeks said NO to Musilini. They consider it sort of an Independence Day. AND it means that Trish will no longer have another birthday celebration (of course she will a long healthy life, but she will no longer age. No to aging for Trish and No to Musilini! Hooray!!! Hooray for Ohi Day!

2nd: The question of the week is ....drum roll please...ah hem. Why do the Greeks around here say that we have 5 seasons? What season is it around here now? Hint, if you say Fall or Autumn, you're wrong! Keep guessing....

First of all, the answer to last question is YES Trish you guessed it right!!! GREECE! And we are in the heart of that region here. All throughout the year, the only tree you need, is the citrus tree, sometimes it produces lemons, and other times it produces limes, just needs to be kept in a certain temperature range, which happens to be the normal range here, and voila, one tree serves two purposes. neato.

Ok, for this question...

Why do the Greeks call Oct. 28th Ohi Day? Hint, ohi means No. As in opposite of yes. So it's No Day to us. Why do they have a NO DAY? By the way, the little one's school is celebrating...Monday it will only be one hour of school and it won't be a normal lesson day because all the kids will be performing poems and songs, then on Tuesday, we'll all meet late again and the kids will march to the local church, have a prayer, and then snacks and that'll be it. On Wed. everything will be back to normal.

Yeah, I figured if this week's question was lame, AND I missed two weeks here, so heré s your bonus question...why do some GREEK cars have a tiny t-shirt hanging in the rear window with the capital letter N on it? Now, just because it's the bonus, you'll have to email me to get the answer this week...or you can have 7 sleepless nights waiting for me to post the answer next week! Your choice....

Sorry for keeping you all on the edge of your seats here...it means that the driver is NEW, they have to do this for a year!
